Accountant/Bookkeeper for Youth Basketball Non-Profit
Project Description:
| |
San Diego All-Stars Basketball Association (SDA) (www.sdabasketball.com) has operated as an unincorporated association from 2001 to present and is currently preparing documents for incorporation as a non-profit public benefit corporation. SDA provides training, coaching and guidance in competitive amateur basketball to young men residing on the west coast, primarily in San Diego County. SDA organizes teams for male student-athletes ages 14 to 19, provides skills training and practice sessions, and arranges for the participation of SDA teams in highly competitive state and national showcases and tournaments. Wherever appropriate, we help our players secure college athletic scholarships. Above all, we endeavor to promote and develop leadership characteristics such as integrity, honesty, team work, discipline, hard work, and commitment, and we hope to prepare our young men for life’s opportunities and challenges, both on and off the court.
As a non-profit, SDA hopes to expand its current program in several respects, including (i) expanded exposure of our athletes to competition and scholarship opportunities throughout the United States, (ii) increased participation in the SDA programs for players from low income families and (iii) critical academic support and guidance to our players to help ensure that student-athletes are prepared to be college students as well as college athletes.

At this time, we are seeking volunteers for several important roles within our organization. All positions are “work-from-home” opportunities with highly flexible hours. Volunteer participation can be tailored to the volunteer’s availability for the right individuals.
We are seeking one or more accounting professionals to provide advise and services to SDA. Specifically, we are seeking a CPA (non-profit specialization preferred) to advise the board, especially with respect to ensuring compliance with both federal and state reporting requirements. We also seek an individual to serve as our accountant/bookkeeper, paying infrequent bills and coaching stipends, processing dues and donations, balancing the checkbook, and producing quarterly financial reports. The accountant would also produce IRS 990 reports and support fundraising and grant writers, as needed.
If you are interested in learning more about the opportunities with SDA, please send your resume or a “professional profile”, along with a paragraph that explains why you are interested in learning more about SDA and our charter. We are looking for volunteers who will volunteer for the SDA fiscal year running from October 2009 through September 2010.
